It has been two years since I last opened a bottle of the 2006 Don Melchor. It still strikes me as a complex and polished wine! The nose is filled with a floral bouquet; rich, dark fruit; and tobacco. The aroma of the wine filled the immediate area. The rich, dark fruit was accompanied by crème de cassis and anise. Everything about this wine is a testament to harmony; the ripe tannins and fruit were well balanced. The finish was long, carried with dark chocolate and mocha. This vintage is not readily available, but can be found. There are still a few good years left in this vintage.

Very good nose, very unstructured taste. All together good for something different

Beautiful dark red with purple color. The nose was dominated with tobacco and green bell. A slight turn off for me. Big and concentrated on the palate. Cassis and black currant. Extracted and layered with a whole mouth feel. Fun to enjoy on its own without food and experience something new with each drink.

This is an outstanding bottle of wine. Just a hint of leather, tobacco, and earth with a mouthful of fruit. Well balanced, easy tannins with a long finish.

still very young and tight but give this an hour or so and the wine starts delivering. Floral notes and red berries are all over the palate. The wine has more mineral characteristics than I expected but the smoothness and integrated tannis mixed with deep cherry, graphite, earthy mushrooms were splendid.

Deep purple in color with vegetal and green pepper notes on the nose. After 2+ hours of airing a seemingly busy palate of sweet dark fruit, vegetal characters, white pepper that builds over time with lots of glass evolution toward an even larger mouth feel of fruit that lacks the balance of structured tannins and/or acid. Medium finish....this one seems all over the place but very enjoyable.

Herbal and a little funky on the nose. Delicious though, with current, bitter chocolate and olive flavors. Really interesting wine. Plenty of acidity. 14.5% alcohol.

A gummy, chewy taste that offers rich plum, red and dark berry flavors. However, I found the finish sorely lacking structure and finesse. While very fruit forward, the wine didn't seem capable of sustaining a long finish and ultimately drank like more of fruit bomb. Not what I would have expected from one of the more notable Chilean producers.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
