Red Proprietary Blend
Producer Notes

Although the Antinori family has been making wine for over 600 years and is steeped in tradition, they haven't been afraid to modernize production and to take an innovative approach to blending. One result is the world famous Super Tuscan "Tignanello," a blend of Sangiovese (85%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), and Cabernet Franc (5%). Dense, lots of flavours, black fruits, chocolate, very fine wine. Loved it. Try again in 2015 as a bit early now.

This Super Tuscan is a blend of Sangiovese, Piccolo and Cabernet Sauvignon. We had the 2004 vintage which was excellent, but the 2006 just doesn't stand up to the tradition. It has the typical red currant and loamy flavors of Sangiovese, with the structure of Cabernet. However, this particular vintage is a bit disjointed and is still quite tannic.

Outstanding, particularly after an hour decanted. Our group simultaneously drank a 2006 Pahlmeyer and all preferred the Italian

Not bad but for this wine, not bad is not good enough.

Dark, glossy ruby red. Sweet, floral aromatics. Blackcurrant, violets, roses and smoky oak on the nose. Full bodied with good acidity and youthful dry grippy tannins. Seamless, balanced palate; blackcurrant and cherry with undertones of leather, tobacco and coffee. The finish is dominated by the spicy oak. Very young, would like to try this again in 10 years.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
