France - Loire Valley - Anjou-Saumur

White Chenin Blanc
Producer Notes

The Loire is renowned for spinning straw into gold when it comes to the "ignored" white grapes of the wine world. This leading property in Anjou (in the village of Rochefort sur Loire) has made its stellar reputation cultivating the precocious Chenin Blanc grape. The dry versions - Savennieres and Savennieres "Clos du Papillon" - are perfect for summer sipping and the fantastic Quarts de Chaumes... More »

Explodes on the palate with orange zest, quince and jasmine, with a little sea spray (mineral?) on the finish. The texture and weight is very light - almost airy - but the flavors are intense and focused. Fruit, mineral and acidity all in balance. Very well made. I would suspect even those who claim not to like sweet wines would like this. Screw cap.

WOW.As good as the hype. Rich, apricots, citrus, "white strawberry", unctious, round, integrated and extraordinary long finish. The next day some leftover standing in a glass was still spectacular. Incredibly looking forward to trying over future years as this wine ages but gosh is it great now.

An absolutely delectable dessert, full of dried apricot, strawberry preserve, honeysuckle blossom, over-ripe pineapple and a m?lange of sweet spices that never overwhelm or cloy. While the wine was exceptionally endowed and rich, the precision, delineation and focus are what set Baumard apart from the rest of the pack. The poor man?s Y?quem of the Loire strikes again

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
