Producer Notes

In 1998 Jayson Woodbridge released his first vintage, one Cabernet, made from his own 10-acre Kayli Morgan Vineyard. The goal was to create a "Right Bank" style Cabernet from those clay soils. I thought this wine was slightly more one dimensional than the others. Less of a nose but many of the same characteristics -- blackberry, sweet dark pitted fruits, and a kiss of vanilla. The flavor was probably the best integrated of the entire flight, but lighter with less layers. Silky smooth. There was an interesting spice on the finish. Couldn't place this but my initial thought was coriander seed. Finish was incredibly smooth. My number 3 WOTN but the group's WOTN.

Opaque color. Cedar and alcohol on the nose and palate are the first impressions. After two hours of air, the dark fruit, vanilla candy and spice comes through. Drink now as it will not likely get any better.

Hundred Acre Ancient Way Vertical Tasting
Our HC group got together in Marblehead to taste through all four vintages of Hundred Acre's Ancient Way Shiraz.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
