This wine was opened at about 5:00 pm and consumption started (with tasting along the way) ~7:30 pm. Big, heavy wine that paired well with dinner. The companion wine was the 2004 Screaming Eagle and, believe it or not, this wine was in the same ball park (though far out parking). Less fruit than smoke and tar. Overall, I enjoyed the wine and feel like it got better over time, probably for the first three hours.

Nose: plum, earthy taste: Spices, black fruit, floral. Medium length, round tannins. It would exhibit even more complexity in a couple of years. Try again in 2016.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
