Needed decanting. Dark red. Still very young. Amazing aromas of black fruit, spices and cedar. Just beginning to come together. Great first bottles. At least another 20 years on this wine.Very long, powerful and full bodied

Opened the first bottle an hour before friends arrived for dinner. We started enjoying this beautiful Rioja over a platter of cheese and while talking about wine. We were all delighted over this complex wine, smooth, rich, and intense. We opened the second bottle over dinner and it was as spectacular as the first one. However, pairing it with a 14oz Ribeye steak was like enjoying a completely different wine, superb nonetheless.

Popped and poured. Drank over a five hour dinner and jam session. This is our third bottle of this over the past several years and each bottle has been spectacular. The nose is a thick blend of dark bing cherries, sweet vanillan, and apricot/peach jam. The body was really well balanced with sugared dates, more dark cherries, plums all riding on a foundation of mild oaky vanillan. The finish was the weakest part of the bottle -- if one had to find something to improve. We had this with a BBQ pulled pork, fresh cornbread, and a sweet corn salad.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
