Red Proprietary Blend
Producer Notes

From vineyards set 400 feet above the floor of Napa Valley, two critically-acclaimed powerhouse wines are crafted. Garnet in color. Slow legs. berry spicy pungent aroma and flavor. Medium/Full bodied. Linear texture. Medium finish. I think its always a unique experience when one gets to drink a maya. 2001 is not one of my favorite vintages for them. I think the wine would have benefited greatly from longer decanting.

Deep red colored wine with moderately pigmented legs. Fleeting aromas of chlorine, traces of game and leather, baker?s chocolate, oak, and cherry ? the wine shut down hard after a few hours of airing. Excellent acidity but the tannins while reasonably supple are quite strong. Good mouthfeel with taut fruit. An austere Maya that needs a decade in the cellar to develop. Only appreciable right now as an intellectual exercise.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
