Orange, ruby with bricking at the rim. Red fruits with a pungent twist on the nose, but beautifully integrated. Think Raspberry & blood orange with vanilla and a faint touch of sweet tobacco.. Gorgeous. Palate is consistent with the nose, with a cutting attack, medium bodied middle, and deceivingly long, if light finish. The wine leans slightly toward the acidic, possibly because fruit may just be starting to fade. All in all, very balanced, and going well with some Brie and stout cheddar. Looking forward to the match with home made Spanish braised chicken. Update: consumed over the course of 6 hours. Paired well with the tomato based sauce. Gained some sweetness with time and air, and also some complexity/tertiary aromas. Showed no deterioration whatsoever throughout the evening. An education in the longevity of a Gran Reserva.

Delicious, classic rioja. Sappy red raspberry, black cherry and red berry fruit. Flavors of kirsch, sweet cigar tobacco, leather, white pepper and spices nicely interwoven and well-balanced. Finely grained tannins well integrated. Delicious, satisfyingly long finish.

Opened 2 hours prior to drinking. Color was light red with some slight tinges of orange and brown. On the nose and palate, this wine showed some floral, red berry and mild earthy characteristics. Smooth tannins in this balanced and medium-bodied wine. This wine is in a good place now.

Color: like a typical Pinot noir (light) but with a somewhat brick color indicative of age nose: rustic, lightly sweet, charred wood Palate: tart. Earthy but with red fruit. Coats tongue and has a long finish. A little unbalanced toward acidity. Tannins likely fading. Drink within next couple of years. Very enjoyable. Paired with paella.

Wine Spectator: The alluring aromas of vanilla, lilac and cedar give way to berry, vanilla and tobacco flavors in this expressive red. Features a supple texture, with firm underlying tannins, while balsamic acidity lends a spicy note to the finish. Drink now. 'TM

A really good wine from a classic vintner at a reasonable price. Parker gives it 96 points, which I think is a little high, but indicative of the quality and value.

Beautiful nose of spice. Big sour blackberries at first taste but settles nicely. Tastes of black sour fruits. Has lightened in color, almost to the pinot look but bigger taste.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
