Located 45 km south of Bordeaux in the village of Sauternes, Guiraud was founded in 1766 and recognized as a first growth Sauternes in 1855. The vines are grown on a combination of sandy gravel and clayey sand, and the vineyards are composed of 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc with an average vine age of 35 to 40 years old. The wine was a deep gold in the glass with a delicate, honey-laced nose. The honey continued on the palate with super ripe, yellow fleshed fruit and a rich density accompanied by butter toffee and a subtle spice from the oak. Pure decadence in a glass! The wine's acidity was mostly subdued. The finish was long and silky smooth. This wine was an absolute delight and the talk of the table after dinner!

I adore this. A real killer year for Sauternes, including the best ever 100 pointer from Yquem. Years of life in this, I'm killing the case too quickly. Consumed with poached pear and Stilton - better than strawberries and cream !

Shared with FIDO Christmas party - there are a couple of wine people... It's quite gold in color already. The nose is full of toasted oranges and honey, with a touch of apricot. The mouth is lush and like drinking straight sunlight! I wish I had another 4 or 5 of these...I feel like this has another 15 years of time for sure on it.

Light golden colour. Expansive nose with apricot, lemon, creme brulee and toffee. Sweet and full bodied with intense flavours of candied orange, marmalade, vanilla and gingerbread. Excellent length.
