Beautiful Barbaresco, ethereal, long, surprisingly tannic finish

Second bottle of this, almost a year down the line. Served alongside a 2005 Vaio Armaron amarone with a fantastic meal of capercaille. Sadly, the bottle that had been opened and decanted proved to be flawed, so the second bottle didn't get the chance to breathe as long as I wanted to, and it kept developing throughout the meal. Since the pevious bottle, I have had severeal Nebbiolo-wines, and on this background I was struck this time by how elegant this wine is, and not quite a rough as I remember it. Anyway, you find layers of all the traditional elements you expect to find in a good Barbaresco, withheld to begin with but then developing both cherry tones and depper, tar, rose, tobacco-notes. Wonderful mouth feeling, tickling acids, quite tough tannins and long lasting taste. The complexity of this wine is a super combination with the the capercaille meat which in itself gives a very complex sensoric experience. Only one bottle left now, and that will be kept for years before opening.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
