Note that you can use the 'Report a problem' link which appears after clicking on any individual listing to notify our content team and partner of incorrect wine matches.

Producer Notes

"If the blessed slopes of the Cote d'Or are home to the ultimate expression of Chardonnay, then Anne-Claude Leflaive could be regarded as the magician, some might use the word "shaman", who can conjure wine like no other from this propitious terroir." - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate More »

(from two very large parcels of vines totaling over 3 ha). Intense honeysuckle fruit with a trace of spicy oak and full-bodied, slightly sweet, beautifully detailed flavors of citrus and apricots all wrapped in a surprisingly strong mineral framework. Not especially dense but impeccably balanced with impressive length and a fine, almost delicate acid structure. There is real elegance here and a certain very appealing nervosité.

Reticent but very ripe nose hints at white flowers, white plum, orange oil and charred oak. Very rich, dense and chewy, but also high-pitched, perfumed and penetrating. A superrich yet classic wine that comes across as a bit less dry than the Combettes today. A great premier cru.

Leflaive produced five barrels (125 cases) of the 1999 Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles. It reveals mineral and earth aromas, as well as an outstanding, deep, focused, and concentrated personality. Liquid minerals, quartz, and pears are found in this crystalline, pure, and elegant wine. Furthermore, it possesses a long, crisp, smooth finish.

Powerful, intense white Burgundy, with both breadth and depth. It shows a honeyed richness and weight, but also citronella and mineral locked up tight. Balanced, it expands on the finish with a long, nutty aftertaste. 430 cases imported.

Another from the auction cache, and another great performance. A wine to share with those who have abandoned Chardonnay, this is so fulfilling, weightless and engaging. It easily handles light or sauced seafood pairings, and even spiced roast chicken. Always takes about 30 minutes in the glass to show, and holds for two hours. Beautiful Chardonnay.

Apple/pear/melon giving way to almonds. If you're looking for an antidote to New World chardonnay, this is it. Another year or two left, but I'd drink now.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
