Very French/Bordeaux in style. Smooth start with still strong tannins. Velvet finish on back of tongue. Restrained fruit, not a lot of sweetness. Medium body. Mild spice, blackberrry and cherry

One of the best wines I've had in a while...tempered with tobacco, soy, raspberries, and some coffee. Some sweet vanilla thrown in for good measure, most likely from the french oak barrels. So damn good...I am so looking forward to my next bottle. Monbousquet was my first good bordeaux I had as an introduction to french wines. I still remember the afternoon I tried the 1996 for the first time - it was like drinking liquid silk. Here's to good times ahead.

We really enjoyed this wine. What a really pleasant surprise! The nose was a beautiful -- dare I say -- port like richness with hints of cedar (?), vanilla, and boysenberries. The flavors were a blend of dried fruits, sweet tannins, and a hint of oaky vanillan. The finish was rather subdued and cost this beauty from scoring higher. But overall an outstanding bottle of wine. Served with eggplant parm and butter garlic sauteed summer squash.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
