France - Bordeaux - St Julien

Red Bordeaux Blend - Second Growth
Producer Notes

The Second Growth classified estate of Leoville Las Cases continues to produce wines of exceptional quality, rivaling those of the First Growth producers. The wines are full-bodied, concentrated and complex, and have tremendous aging potential. Typical blends consist of over 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, with lesser amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and a small amount of Petit Verdot. Bargain... More »

Deep ruby color; enormous depth; fabulous fruit; real intensity yet mellow and smooth; a full, complete wine; very lovely & very classy; a wine of very fine quality; very good tannins that have softened and integrated nicely; very long delicious finish. A great Bordeaux that is drinking beautifully and will continue to for many years.

Wonderful wine that is ready to drink. Strong aroma of pepper and licorice, perhaps leather as well. The fruit and the tannins are in harmony. Not as good as I expected (but that may be expectation vs. reality) but a lovely wine.

One of the 1995 vintage's major success stories. The wine is now fully mature with no tannin. The 1995 has a strong ruby/purple color, and exceptionally pure aroma of fruits and spices. The finish is beautifully long in this classic Bordeaux. A wonderful wine to drink now or save.

very powerful and unusual flavors; but did not shine compared to other Las Cases vintages at the St. Julien tasting; but long life?

Just a great wine with fabulous purity, fruit and balance. It would be misleading to call it young--it drinks so well now--but there are years left. Has to be one of the wines of this good vintage.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
