Red Bordeaux Blend - Second Growth
Producer Notes

The Second Growth classified estate of Leoville Las Cases continues to produce wines of exceptional quality, rivaling those of the First Growth producers. Beautiful wine. 1.5 hour decant. Nose of a classic Bordeaux (earth, mineral, dust). Notes of blackberry fruit, tobacco, and earth. Long finish. Had against a 2012 Marsten Cab and this just blew it away (as we all thought it would)

Probably an imperfect bottle. Cork very damp and slid right out. Musty flavors with long, strange acidic finish. It did improve throughout the night. Great nose.

At the top of its game but far from done I recently had the ''95 and '96 and this may not quite equal those but still excellent. Extremely balanced with good fruit and a good but not overlong finish

Still very tannic, black coffee taste, balance there, but need to wait twenty more years

Clear. Deep ruby. No fading of colour at the rim despite the age. Clean, medium to pronounced nose of ripe plums and cherries. Hints of capsicum, leather and tobacco notes. Sweet spices - nutmeg? And notes of violet and mint as as the wine develops in the glass. Dry. High acidity, medium plus body, medium plus silky-velvety tannins. More capsicum and leather notes on the palate. Very long silky finish. Outstanding quality. Premium priced. Can drink now but can keep for at least another 15 years.

An uninspired effort from this second growth. Medium garnet hued wine that turns clear at the rim. Legs still show excellent color. Earth, red fruits, tobacco, herbs, and saddle leather in the bouquet. Clean and crisp with decent fruit and a fairly short finish. Excellent acidity (especially considering the heat of the vintage) with still slightly firm tannin. In no danger of turning over but this wine has peaked ? drink now to 2015.

A flawed bottle may be affected by cork taint, heat (maderized), oxidation, or excessive sulfur. Additionally, some people consider wines tainted by Brettanomyces (Brett), a non-spore forming genus of yeast, a flaw although there is much controversy surrounding the subject.
