Lightly aromatic and supple and graceful on the palate, with a soothing texture and understated plum and raspberry flavors that highlight anise and wilted rose. Drink now through 2022. 703 cases made.Author: James LaubeJamesSuckling.com | Rating: 95
Purity of fruit is the phrase here. Strawberry and flower. Rose petal. Full body, round and velvety tannins. Soft and juicy. The KB character with tension. Drink or hold.Author: James SucklingVinous | Rating: 93
The 2015 Pinot Noir Koplen Vineyard is one of the most overt, flamboyant wines in the lineup. Super-ripe red cherry and plum flavors make a strong first impression. Blood orange and a host of citrus-infused notes add brightness and lift throughout. The intensity of Russian River fruit along with a touch of freshness adds up to a compelling Pinot Noir. Nearly 40% of wine was aged in concrete.Author: Antonio Galloni

California is the heartland of wine production in the US, and the state that brought prestige to American wine thanks to the pioneers who built early wineries like Staglin, Beringer, Ridge, Mayacamas and Chateau Montelena in the 1800s. Its large geographic area ensures a great diversity in growing sites, varieties grown, and quality levels. Generalizations about the state's wines have numerous exceptions; however, a few key facts generally hold true—ample sunshine, dry weather during the growing season, and moderate winters prevail. Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon continue to dominate the state's production—albeit in continually smaller percentages, as growers continue to diversify. More than 100 different varieties can be found throughout the state.
