The 2015 Pinot Noir San Andreas Fault is soft, silky and nuanced, with lovely berry and floral character. Sweet red cherry, white pepper, mint and orange peel add attractive shades of brightness. Time in the glass brings out the wine's inner sweetness and sensuality. Medium in body and gracious in feel, the San Andreas is the most approachable and easygoing of the Hirsch 2015s. I would prefer to drink it sooner rather than later given the wine's mid-weight structure.Drink Dates: 2018 - 2023Author: Antonio GalloniIssue: Apr 2018
David Hirsch is a pioneer of pinot growing on the rugged Sonoma Coast. He planted his Old Vineyard on an ocean vista ridge-top in 1980 and sold his premium pinot and chardonnay in the decades that followed, building a reputation of excellence. Focus has always been site-specific, with wines made to highlight the uniqueness of the Sonoma Coast. In 2002 David and his wife Marie began their own winery in order to explore for themselves the possibilities of their Wine Spectator-dubbed a grand cru site, which had grown considerably from the original plantings. The production of their Estate wines is now beginning to expand, but remains limited. They also make a second wine called Bohan-Dillon, named for their road.
