Wine Advocate | Rating: 90This is a fantastic expression of Barbera from a warm and sunny vintage. The 2015 Barbera d'Alba Aves is a tad more powerful than many of its peers (with 15% alcohol), but it also offers a generous flow of succulent cherry and blackberry. The wine exhibits thick color and consistency with balanced acidity and a cheerful point of sweetness. Some 8,000 bottles were produced.Author: Monica Larner
Barbera is a late-ripening variety with medium to deep color, low to medium tannin, high acidity, and aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and plum. It is native to the region of , where the best wines are barrel aged to add complexity and spicy flavors. Look to producers such as and for the best expressions of this varietal.
Barbera’s high acidity and low levels of tannin make it a great pairing option for dark meats, steak tartare, herbaceous cheese, porcini mushrooms, and guinea hen.
