Reduction once again overshadows the fruit. There is excellent power to the tight, intense, robust and imposingly-scaled flavors that brim with structure-buffering dry extract that coats the palate on the impressively long and austere if slightly edgy finish. The tannins appear to be ripe and my predicted range offers the benefit of the doubt that this will harmonize with a few years of bottle age.

The 2014 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru was showing just a little reduction on the nose that was consequently difficult to read. The palate is medium-bodied and chewy on the entry, quite disjointed at the moment. It needs to develop more flesh and so I will defer judgement on this until a later date.

Dark red with ruby highlights. Reduced, distinctly wild aromas of black raspberry, roasted herbs and smoke, plus a whiff of petrol. Hugely rich and voluminous without coming across as heavy. Soil-driven flavors of black fruits, smoked meat, brown spices and singed underbrush convey a captivating restrained sweetness. Horizontal and very long on the aftertaste, with lingering notes of savory earth. There's just a single new barrel of this juice. - Stephen Tanzer
