One of the highlights in this range, the 2014 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) is a gorgeous wine, especially at this level. Sweet red cherry, cinnamon and rose petal notes are front and center. Linear and tightly wound, the 2014 possesses notable restraint as well as class, with less of the overt boisterousness that is at times typical of Russian River Pinots.Author: Antonio GalloniWine Spectator | Rating: 91
Smooth and inviting, offering charming flavors of wild berry, blueberry, spice and cedar. Supple in texture, long and lingering on the finish. Drink now. 6,859 cases made.Author: James LaubeWine Advocate | Rating: 93
The appellation 2014 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley from this team is a smoking effort. Mostly destemmed and brought up in 44% new French oak, it's loaded with notions of black raspberries, toasted spice, licorice and underbrush. These give way to a full-bodied, concentrated, textured Pinot Noir that packs plenty of fruit, while never losing the elegance and purity of the variety. It will evolve every bit as well as most of the single vineyard releases.Author: Jeb Dunnuck

California is the heartland of wine production in the US, and the state that brought prestige to American wine thanks to the pioneers who built early wineries like Staglin, Beringer, Ridge, Mayacamas and Chateau Montelena in the 1800s. Its large geographic area ensures a great diversity in growing sites, varieties grown, and quality levels. Generalizations about the state's wines have numerous exceptions; however, a few key facts generally hold true—ample sunshine, dry weather during the growing season, and moderate winters prevail. Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon continue to dominate the state's production—albeit in continually smaller percentages, as growers continue to diversify. More than 100 different varieties can be found throughout the state.
