Coming from the Russian River Valley, the 88-case 2014 Pinot Noir Cohn Vineyard offers a medium-bodied, savory and mineral-laced style as well as lots of white pepper, strawberry, spice and assorted red fruits. Elegant, lightly textured, graceful and with fine tannin, it will cruise in the cellar through 2024+. The cuvee saw 43% new French oak.Author: Jeb DunnuckVinous | Rating: 93
Once again, the Pinot Noir Cohn Vineyard is one of the most unique wines in the range. Exotic and totally alluring in its aromatics, the Cohn has a wildness to it that I find compelling. A host of blood orange, rose petal and sweet red cherry notes soar from the glass in a lift, aromatically intense Pinot loaded with personality. This is an eccentric style for the Russian River, but it all works nicely. Kosta Browne has a long association with Cohn, as it was the source of the first KB Pinot.Author: Antonio GalloniWine Spectator | Rating: 93
Rustic and edgy, with extracted, firmly tannic wild berry, cherry and earth-scented plum and blueberry flavors. Slow to unfold, but impressive overall. Drink now through 2022. 88 cases made.Author: James Laube

California is the heartland of wine production in the US, and the state that brought prestige to American wine thanks to the pioneers who built early wineries like Staglin, Beringer, Ridge, Mayacamas and Chateau Montelena in the 1800s. Its large geographic area ensures a great diversity in growing sites, varieties grown, and quality levels. Generalizations about the state's wines have numerous exceptions; however, a few key facts generally hold true—ample sunshine, dry weather during the growing season, and moderate winters prevail. Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon continue to dominate the state's production—albeit in continually smaller percentages, as growers continue to diversify. More than 100 different varieties can be found throughout the state.
