Scheduled to be bottled in January or February of 2018, the 2014 Cote Rotie La Mouline is a forward, perfumed version of this cuvee that has lovely black cherry fruit, lots of spice box, dried flowers, and bacon fat aromatics. With medium to full body and an elegant, silky style that just begs to be drunk, it's going to be the most approachable of the three single vineyard Cote Roties yet will keep for 15+ years.

Still aging in barrel, the 2014 Cote Rotie La Mouline is really charming, sexy stuff. Soaring florals emerge from the glass, accompanied by notes of dark fruit, espresso and grilled meat. Silky and seductive, it should drink well young yet be capable of developing for 20 years.

Glass-staining ruby. Lively, intensely perfumed aromas of red and blue fruit preserves, Moroccan spices, potpourri and incense are sharpened by a smoky mineral nuance. Juicy and pure on the palate, displaying seductively sweet boysenberry and cherry liqueur flavors along with hints of candied violet and spicecake. The floral and spice notes return emphatically on the extremely long, penetrating finish, which features velvety tannins and a hint of five-spice powder.-- Josh Raynolds

Offers a gorgeous mouthfeel, with a crumpled velvet texture that lets the raspberry and blackberry reduction, ganache and warm licorice notes tumble through while maintaining definition. The finish is well-embedded with mesquite and apple wood details that add range and texture. Very impressive for the vintage. Best from 2021 through 2040. 90 cases imported. — JM

  • Marcel Guigal - the so-called "pivot" of the Cote-Rotie appellation - is both an owner and negociant, and vinifies over 40% of all Cote-Rotie. His father, Etienne, started out quite modestly in 1946, and over the next decades the company has grown to encompass all that is best in the Rhone Valley. Not only known for the massive hits in Hermitage and Cote-Rotie, the Guigal name is synonymous with quality all along the scale, from the humble Cotes-du-Rhone to the Big Three - La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque.
