The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa has 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot added to it. This is a slightly larger cuvAce of 1,000 cases vs. the 600 of the 2013. The 2014 is elegant, with serious concentration and a lovely nose of forest floor, underbrush and loamy soil nuances along with black and red currants and some subtle oak. Round, juicy and fruit-forward, this precociously styled wine should drink well for 10-15 years.

    Wine Spectator 2016 Top 100 #98

Showcases Cabernet in a harmonious, graceful pose. Though big and rich, this is deftly balanced and easy to approach, with tiers of spicy black licorice, red and dark berry, mocha, mineral, sage and floral notes. Shows depth and dimension overall. Drink now through 2032. 800 cases made.

  • California is the heartland of wine production in the US, and the state that brought prestige to American wine thanks to the pioneers who built early wineries like Staglin, Beringer, Ridge, Mayacamas and Chateau Montelena in the 1800s. Its large geographic area ensures a great diversity in growing sites, varieties grown, and quality levels. Generalizations about the state's wines have numerous exceptions; however, a few key facts generally hold true—ample sunshine, dry weather during the growing season, and moderate winters prevail. Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon continue to dominate the state's production—albeit in continually smaller percentages, as growers continue to diversify. More than 100 different varieties can be found throughout the state.
