Flirting with perfection is the 2014 Chardonnay Lauren Estate, from 16-year-old vines, which offers great extract, richness, and plenty of honeysuckle, tropical fruit and citrus oil. The wine, showing its concentration because of the drought year, should easily last 12-15 years.Drink Dates: 2016 - 2031Author: Robert ParkerIssue: 227Wine Spectator | Rating: 93

The 2014 Chardonnay Lauren Vineyard is one of the most brilliant wines in this range. Subtle, nuanced yet also deep, the 2014 blossoms with time in the glass. As good as the Lauren is today, experience has taught me that a few years in bottle can be transformational. This is yet another captivating Chardonnay from Mark Aubert.Drink Dates: 2018 - 2025Author: Antonio GalloniIssue: Feb 2016Jeb Dunnuck | Rating: 98
The 2014 Chardonnay Lauren is a huge, incredibly complex and blockbuster styled Chardonnay that always seems to me to be a mix of a great Chablis and a Chevalier-Montrachet. And while it’s brought up in 100% new oak, it’s almost impossible to detect. This incredible wine offers loads of lemon oil, buttered citrus, honeysuckle and white flowers in a full-bodied, yet elegant, perfectly balanced package. It only gets better with air, give it a decant if drinking anytime soon. While I can’t keep my hands off of these and go through my allocation far too quickly, I’ve no doubt these will evolve gracefully.Drink Dates: 2017 - 2027Author: Jeb DunnuckIssue: Recent Bottles From the Cellar…
Aubert also makes several Pinot Noirs sourced from the Sonoma Coast as well as a "right-bank" Bordeaux style blend from Napa's Howell Mountain.

California is the heartland of wine production in the US, and the state that brought prestige to American wine thanks to the pioneers who built early wineries like Staglin, Beringer, Ridge, Mayacamas and Chateau Montelena in the 1800s. Its large geographic area ensures a great diversity in growing sites, varieties grown, and quality levels. Generalizations about the state's wines have numerous exceptions; however, a few key facts generally hold true—ample sunshine, dry weather during the growing season, and moderate winters prevail. Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon continue to dominate the state's production—albeit in continually smaller percentages, as growers continue to diversify. More than 100 different varieties can be found throughout the state.
