The 2013 Chardonnay Cote Sud Vineyard comes from vines located in a neighboring property that was bought by Domaine Serene in 1997. It has a well-defined and more complex bouquet than the Clos de Lune and Clos du Soleil, with hints of apricot blossom and dried mango developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with nutmeg and walnut tinged fruit, though I would like to see a touch more nervosité towards the finish come through with bottle age.

  • Owners Ken and Grace Evenstad arrived in Oregon in 1989 to pursue their passion for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their winemaker Tony Rynders, who holds a Masters in Enology from UC Davis, crafts impeccably balanced wines primarily from three low-yielding estate properties: Jerusalem Hill, Evenstad and Winery Hill. Syrah is produced under their Rock Block label.

Oregon has seen a huge boom in wine production in recent decades, as has the entire Pacific Northwest region. Once known for small wineries nestled amongst farmland, the Oregon wine industry has been the recipient of a huge capital influx, which has opened up new vine-growing territory and built numerous large-production brands. Although best known for Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley, which sits at the same latitude as Burgundy, the state continues to build a reputation for Rhône and white varieties as well.
