A perceptible if quite subtle note of volatile acidity is present on the otherwise airy and fresh nose that is composed of mostly red currant and soft floral aromas. The precise, intense and pungently stony middle weight flavors possess a dusty and moderately austere finish that is slightly clipped though there is a lot of gas present that is undoubtedly contributing to this impression. As the description suggests this is pretty awkward and the nose is a minor concern.

The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has a fragrant wild red cherry, raspberry and briary-scented bouquet that unwraps nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with quite |solid| tannins that provide a fine backbone to this Chambolle. A slight chalkiness comes through on the finish. Not quite in the same league as the 2012, but it should drink well from bottle.
