Deep ruby-violet. Explosive, pure blackberry, boysenberry and black cherry scents show no musty or green notes--something that is not altogether rare in many less-successful 2013 Bordeaux. Broad, deep and velvety for the year, with seamless dark berry and graphite flavors given gentle support by soft, ripe tannins. The persistent finish features smooth tannins and a lingering echo of boysenberry. A fairly sexy rather than refined Beychevelle.

  • Built in magnificent 18th century Louis XV style, Chateau Beychevelle sits in the St. Julien district of the Medoc, with neighbors including Chateau Gloria and Chateau St. Pierre. The name Beychevelle was derived from the expression "Baisse-Vaille" meaning "lower sails". This act was a symbol of respect by the French Navy to the Duc d'Eperon, who was Admiral of France at the time and 16th century owner of the estate. The chateau is a 4eme Cru Classe, and produces a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. At its best, the wine is known for its rich, concentrated fruit that ages with ease. In addition to its flagship wine, the estate also makes a second label called Amiral de Beychevelle and an AC Haut Medoc production called Brulieres de Beychevelles.
