In something of a role-reversal with typical Preuses, Dauvissat's 2012 Chablis Les Clos displays a mouthwateringly scallop-like alliance of saline, sweet, and intriguingly savory elements of the sort that make one ask |how can this come from grapes?| That-s in addition to the even more predictable intrigue associated with Kimmeridgian Chardonnay: evocations of chalk dust, smoky-fusil crushed stone, iodine, and fresh citrus. All this is wreathed in iris perfume tinged with a bite of horseradish, and focuses on a palpably extract-rich palate and finish of forceful penetration and almost electric excitation. Look for great things through at least 2022.

Bright lemon-yellow. Even brighter and higher-pitched on the nose today than the Preuses, offering scents of lemon, grapefruit pith and crushed rock. Compellingly pure and electric in the mouth, with its superb mineral density leavened by citrus and floral flavors. Boasts an uncanny combination of supple texture and sheer stony cut. The longest of all of these 2012s, with a vibrant crushed-stone finish that leaves the salivary glands humming. One of the greats of the vintage.

This is also very restrained, cool and ultra-pure with its reserved aromas of wet stone, lemon peel, white flowers, iodine and discreet wood hints. There is excellent power and punch to the intensely mineral-driven medium weight flavors that finish with a very dry and explosive finale. A classically styled and proportioned Les Clos.
