    Another rich, explosive wine, the 2012 Proprietary Red is racy and expressive to the core. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. The 2012 is naturally very, very young, but it boasts tremendous richness, volume and pure texture. This is a terrific example of the year. If past vintages are an indication, it should also age impeccably. In 2012, the blend is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot.

    The 2012 Proprietary Red Blend (79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot) is fabulous with complex notes of plum, blackcurrants, blueberries, raspberries, licorice and very subtle background oak followed by a full-bodied, opulently textured wine. This has voluptuous texture, tremendous opulence and is a sexy beast. Perfect purity also highlights this marvelous wine that can be drunk now or cellared for 15 more years.

    A Pahlmeyer that really convinced me that this winery is capable of making not just really good wines, but great ones as well., Initial aromas were dominated by dark cherry and some rare roast beef, but after about an hour opened into a glorious mix of cherry, soft florals, enoki, and veal. Taste was an engaging mix of bing cherry, umami, pink grapefruit and red meat. Fantastic! Mature now; no reason to delay the pleasure. Bravo!

Pahlmeyer started over 20 years ago when former trial attorney Jayson Pahlmeyer decided to turn his passion for wine into a career in Napa Valley. After studying viticulture and oenology at the University of Bordeaux, Pahlmeyer returned to the United States and produced his first wine (a Bordeaux blend) in 1986. Under the guidance of Pahlmyer, and current winemaker Erin Green, this reputation endures, annually establishing the estate as one of the finest producers of Bordeaux blends, Merlot, and Chardonnay in California.
