International Wine Cellar | Rating: 91Pale orange. Fresh strawberry, melon and tangerine scents are complicated by smoky minerals and herbs, with chalk and spice nuances adding lift. Bright, energetic and pure, with palate-staining red berry fruit flavors given lift and spine by chalky minerality. The mineral-tinged finish features a suave, gently sweet note of honeysuckle and shows excellent clarity.Author: Josh RaynoldsIssue: November/December 2013

In 1996 Melville Vineyards made the bold move from Knights Valley to the Santa Rita Hills appellation, where Ron Melville and his sons set up the estate property with a focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Santa Rita microclimate, with its coastal winds and fog, provided the Melvilles the perfect locale for their 139 planted acres of Pinot, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Viognier. Winemaker Greg Brewer, of Brewer-Clifton fame, oversees production at Melville.
