Wine Advocate | Rating: 95The 2012 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, which underwent a tardy malolactic fermentation, is surprisingly well behaved on the nose: strict at first and preferring to unfold in piecemeal fashion to reveal saturnine black fruit laced with inkwell and Indian spice scents. The palate is very well balanced: packed full of dense black fruit and struck through with a keen, almost racy acidity. The finish is very solid and structured for Bonnes-Mares that I suspect will age extremely well. In its youth, I suspect this will be impressive more than pleasurable...at least for the first decade of its life.Author: Neal Martin
International Wine Cellar | Rating: 96Bright, dark red. Knockout nose combines black fruits, wild herbs, violet, licorice and graphite, with complicating notes of mocha, cola and brown spices. Sappy, spicy and highly concentrated, with extremely backward, youthfully withdrawn flavors of dark berries, spices and bitter chocolate. Most impressive today on the savory, rising back end, which shows a powerful tannic spine, complex notes of minerals, spices, mint and wild herbs, and outstanding cut and grip.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: January/February 2014
