(bottled the day before my late-May visit): Orange juice, peach and a hint of spice on the nose. Pure and focused, with lovely acidity and calcaire -driven minerality giving the middle palate a very taut quality. Finishes precise and long, with excellent cut and grip. I'd wait four or five years to pull the cork.

A touch of pain grilleframes the impressively broad nose of acacia blossom, mandarin orange peel, white peach and a hint of menthol. The generous proportioned, round and delicious medium weight flavors possess solid mid-palate concentration as well as a seductive texture before culminating in a delicious and notably dry but not austere finish. This isn't especially complex at present though my range offers the benefit of the doubt that more depth will develop with time in bottle.

  • "If the blessed slopes of the Cote d'Or are home to the ultimate expression of Chardonnay, then Anne-Claude Leflaive could be regarded as the magician, some might use the word "shaman", who can conjure wine like no other from this propitious terroir." - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
