Tasted blind at Farr Vintners Kumeu/White Burgundy tasting. The nose on the 2012 Mate's Vineyard Chardonnay has more intensity and complexity than the 2010: very detailed and harmonious with limestone, nettle and citrus lemon notes. The palate is fresh and poised with lime and green apple, very well-judged acidity with a linear, Chablis-like finish that is an absolute joy. This is an outstanding Mate's Chardonnay, perhaps the best that Kumeu River produced that year.
