What an utterly phenomenal nose that has not quit since opening this nearly 3 hours ago. It was immediately funky as all Dettori wines are, and with lots of petillance, and visible glycerine in the glass. A Pinot Noir-esque color, light garnet around the rim and then a thickness in body that is undoubtedly a result of Alessandro's non-interventionist approach. Clearly unfiltered and unfined. On to the taste - juicy bright cherry, somehow I get vanilla here (despite lack of oak), and there's spiciness, and minerality - as AD says, these wines are |alive| and this was no exception. There is some exceptional depth here, with each sip there is power and a real sense of place with these wines. This is certainly in heavy Pinot noir territory and also similar to some aged Grenache/CdP-based wines. I'm extremely pleased with the quality. On day two, a pepper element really came through, nose is still there but not as huge. Really something here.
