(clone 337; from vines planted in the 1980s): Bright ruby. Knockout nose combines cassis, boysenberry, violet, spices, mocha and tobacco. Plush, sweet and fat with fruit; suggests an almost roasted ripeness to its kirsch and spice flavors without coming across as stewy. Really compellingly rich and powerful wine with the serious tannic clout to support a long life in bottle.
This was a curious bottle. No doubt the usual heavyweight but lacked the big fruit that I have come to expect. Opened and poured right away. Needed some air? I think I'll hold last bottle for some time.
