The 2012 Syrah Alder Springs used 80% stems and was aged in 30% new French oak. It exhibits an opaque purple color, blueberry, black raspberry and blackberry fruit, a full-bodied, opulent texture, and tremendous purity as well as length. Drink this stunning Syrah over the next decade.

(80% whole clusters and 30% new oak): Inky ruby. Highly fragrant scents of dark berry preserves, violet, olive and vanilla, with smoke and anise topnotes. Sappy, seamless and expansive, offering intense blackberry and bitter cherry flavors underscored by a smoky mineral nuance. Fine-grained tannins give shape to the finish, which leaves sexy floral, mineral and allspice notes behind. There's a really suave marriage of power and elegance here. (JR)
