(60% zinfandel and 25% carignane, with petite sirah, alicante bouschet, cinsault, valdigue and some other black varieties; 30% new oak): Bright ruby. Potent aromas of musky cherry pit, blueberry and bitter chocolate, with a smoky topnote that builds with air. Plush, round and sweet, offering smoky black and blue fruit, mineral and floral pastille flavors complicated by cracked pepper and licorice. Finishes smoky and very long, with pliant tannins coming on late.

The aroma recalls a warm summer day in the vineyard, with scents of wild berry, dried flowers and sage. The flavors are deep and distinctive, showing notes of smoky pepper, mineral and grilled anise.
