Good saturated bright red. Deep, rich, slightly reduced aromas of black raspberry, rust and smoke, complicated by a whiff of animal fur. Rich, chewy and very ripe but with good sappy energy and medicinal reserve giving this saline wine excellent lift in the mouth. Solid tannic structure here for aging. This is 13% alcohol without chaptalization.

Here the nose is intensely floral with a broad-ranging nose of raspberry, cherry, red currant and soft earth nuances. There is a lovely mouth feel to the beautifully well-detailed medium weight flavors that possess good volume and verve before terminating in a moderately austere, well-balanced and impressively persistent finale. Good stuff that is worth your attention.

The 2012 Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Les Ruchots was picked a full 6 days after the Aux Chezeaux. It has the most vivacious, delineated bouquet of the Morey premier crus with lifted black cherries and cassis fruit. The palate is very harmonious with very good acidity. The fruit here is very pure with a very composed, almost grand cru finish. This is pure class.

The dedication of the Arlaud family - father Herve, son Cyprien and daughter Bertille - has substantially improved this domaine each year. Their labor-intensive practices of hand pruning, stringent green harvesting and the use of a horse and plow instead of a tractor have produced the finest wines of the domaine's history.

The wines are textbook expressions of each terroir and are remarkably complex and richly balanced. Look for the domaine to continue to build its strong reputation in vintages ahead.
