Bright red-ruby. Aromas of currant, leather and mocha are complemented by smoky, spicy oak. Good intensity to the currant and spicy oak flavors, along with an herbal edge and a suggestion of stewed tomato. A bit pinched compared to the richer vintages here, but the firmly tannic finish shows good persistence.

Showing dried berry, herb, cedar and loamy, rocky soil flavors, this is atypically rugged and tannic due to the difficulties of the vintage, lacking the suppleness usually displayed by this wine. Drink now through 2023. 1,700 cases made.

The lean, austere 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is certainly adequate, but it suffers from some of the challenges of this irregular vintage. However, the 2009 and 2010 are among the finest wines Staglin has yet made.

Situated at the base of the Mayacamas Range on the Rutherford Bench, this sixty-one acre property has ideal soils, microclimate and location. The estate's potential was recognized by some of the first Napa Valley settlers and was planted to vineyards in the mid 1860's. Today the certified organic estate is home to the Staglins, fifty-one acres of vines, an underground winery, the historic homestead and a solar array.

Staglin is undoubtedly within the top tier of California Cabernet producers. In addition to the flagship Staglin Family Vineyard label, they also produce a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Chardonnay under the Salus label.
