2011 Niepoort Vintage Port
PORTUGAL / PORTO/DOURO /
Wine Advocate | Rating: 96
The glass containing the Niepoort Vintage is almost overflowing with fruity aromas - damson, cassis, tobacco and cigar box all beautifully defined. With aeration there is a very appealing sense of Bordeaux-like austerity that comes forth. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, a slight savoriness infusing the tertiary black fruit, and superb structure on the reserved, quite aristocratic finish, which offers a kick of spice on the aftertaste. Wonderful. Tasted May 2013.Author: Neal MartinWine Spectator | Rating: 95
This fruity style shows plenty of peppery notes, with bright cherry and fresh-crushed plum flavors that are crisp and lively. Finishes with a flurry of pomegranate and chocolate accents.Author: Kim Marcus
Niepoort's story begins in 1842 when Dutchman Eduard Kebe established the firm in the famed Douro wine-making region of Portugal. When he passed away in 1848, the business was left in the capable hands of his business partner, F. M. Van der Niepoort. Over 150 years later, Dirk Niepoort continues to make fortified wines using the same methods as his ancestors.
Niepoort has lead the way as one of the region's most innovative and creative winemakers of both fortified and still wines.
