  • Burghound | Rating: 94

A broad-ranging nose is comprised of honeysuckle, anise, clove, lemongrass, brioche and pear. There is an appealing sense of volume to the beautifully delineated, serious, textured and energetic flavors that are both classy and stylish, all wrapped in a hugely long yet impeccably balanced finish where a touch of wood influence surfaces. A classic Pucelles of generosity and refinement that should amply reward up to a decade of cellaring.

  • International Wine Cellar | Rating: 92

Slightly high-toned aromas of orange blossom, lemon and white flowers. Juicy, intense and youthfully taut, showing a lovely balance of sweetness and acidity to its flavors of citrus fruit, jasmine and honeysuckle. This very firm, penetrating wine is more about high notes than earth. Finishes pure and long, with a firm mineral edge that will require substantial cellaring. Wonderfully gripping for the vintage, and clearly picked on the early side.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles 2011 is rather muted on the nose and remains very reticent. There are light dewy green-apple scents that begin to appear, but it is very stubborn. The palate is crisp and taut on the entry: quite grassy with green apple and kiwi fruit, segueing toward a balanced but tightly wound finish that needs another couple of years to unwind. This is very classy and should age with style.

This bright version evokes lime blossom, apple, hazelnut and stone notes. Lean and athletic, presenting a firm yet refined structure and a long finish of citrus and mineral. The oak is beautifully integrated.

  • "If the blessed slopes of the Cote d'Or are home to the ultimate expression of Chardonnay, then Anne-Claude Leflaive could be regarded as the magician, some might use the word "shaman", who can conjure wine like no other from this propitious terroir." - Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
