(100% vendange entier ; 13.2% with a bit of chaptalization): Medium red. Highly complex nose combines wild dark berries, smoky herbs, brown spices, leather, rust and pepper. Suave, elegant and fine-grained; a lovely silky midweight with perfumed notes of iron, rust, olive, wild herbs, spices and pepper. Finishes with very good spicy length. This can be enjoyed now or cellared. Offers a Lambrays-typical blend of structure and finesse, not to mention terrific aromatic complexity. Incidentally, although Brouin described 2012 as one of his best vintages of the last 20 years, he maintained that the 2011 is more transparent to its site.

The aromas are dominated by floral, vegetal and spice notes, followed by a beam of pure cherry. Turns deeper and more complex as the finish unleashes fruit, sandalwood and mineral flavors. Excellent length.

  • This vineyard near Morey St Denis in the Cote de Nuits produced stellar wines in the 1940s and fully deserved Grand Cru status, yet this was not achieved until 1981. Under owners Roland de Chambure, the Saier family and oenologist Thierry Brouin, the "sleeping beauty" vineyard succeeded in making a comeback after having fallen into disrepair in the 1970s. In 1996 after being sold again, the new owners, Gunter and Ruth Freund, restored the chateau and re-established the successful path that Lambrays has since followed.

The wines are studies in finessed concentration and exhibit an enchanting blend of fruit, spice and mineral that continues to evolve on the palate and in the cellar. In addition to the Morey St Denis reds, Lambrays also produces a few Chardonnays from Puligny Montrachet.
