(includes 4% cabernet franc): Deep red-ruby. Sappy aromas of redcurrant, lavender and minerals, plus a balsamic cedary quality. Like liquid velvet in the mouth, boasting a remarkably glossy texture to the flavors of dark fruits, mocha, brown spices and minerals. Not as opulent as the 2010 (or 2012) version but this wine boasts outstanding lift and slowly building length. The finish features firm, well-integrated tannins and an impression of weightlessness. Merlot was obviously particularly successful here in 2011, as it also comprised a majority of the Estate Cuvee.Author: Stephen TanzerIssue: May/June 2014Wine Advocate | Rating: 91
The finest two wines of this vintage include the 2011 Roberta's Reserve, which is more reserved and austere than usual. Nevertheless, it still reveals an attractive sweet chocolate and black currant-scented nose with hints of espresso, spicy oak and fruit, and a medium-bodied, supple mouthfeel. In 2011, 500 cases were produced.Author: Robert Parker
The historic State Lane Vineyard, in the heart of the Napa Valley, was first leased by Beringer Estates in 1972 and was used to launch Beringer's famous Private Reserve Cabernet. The Kapcsandys purchased the property in May, 2000 and in 2001 teamed up with legendary winemaker Helen Turley and her viticulturist husband John Wetlaufer. After careful research, they discovered a unique vineyard with multiple micro-geological conditions and decided to redevelop the vineyard for its utmost potential and produce world-class red wines under the Kapcsandy label. The first two vintages - 2003 and 2004 - were produced by Helen Turley. For 2005 Rob Lawson, the winemaker at Napa Wine Company for the past 16 years, was brought aboard and in 2007, Denis Malbec became the sole winemaking consultant.
