From a site planted in 1880, the 2011 Zinfandel Martinelli Road Vineyard jumps from the glass with a burst of sweet red cherries, flowers and mint. Ripe, silky tannins lend an element of total grace and exquisite overall harmony. In 2011 the Martinelli Road is impeccably polished. Floral notes give the finish an attractive lifted quality that is undeniably appealing. This is dazzling! Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026.

Deep ruby. Powerful, smoke- and vanilla-accented aromas of candied red fruits and fresh flowers, with a peppery topnote. Rich but juicy and surprisingly animated on the palate, offering intense raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that are lifted and sharpened by tangy acidity. Slow-building tannins give shape to the persistent finish, which strongly echoes the raspberry note.

  • California is the heartland of wine production in the US, and the state that brought prestige to American wine thanks to the pioneers who built early wineries like Staglin, Beringer, Ridge, Mayacamas and Chateau Montelena in the 1800s. Its large geographic area ensures a great diversity in growing sites, varieties grown, and quality levels. Generalizations about the state's wines have numerous exceptions; however, a few key facts generally hold true—ample sunshine, dry weather during the growing season, and moderate winters prevail. Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon continue to dominate the state's production—albeit in continually smaller percentages, as growers continue to diversify. More than 100 different varieties can be found throughout the state.
