International Wine Cellar | Rating: 90(66% new oak): Brilliant ruby. Explosive aromas of raspberry, cherry-cola, mocha and incense, with a sexy floral quality building in the glass. Palate-staining red and dark berry flavors become smokier and spicier with aeration, picking up a spicecake nuance. Juicy, penetrating and pure on the palate, finishing with allspice, red berry compote and cola notes.Author: Josh RaynoldsIssue: May/June 2014
In the "Deep End" of the Anderson Valley, the Green family has developed Kite's Rest Vineyard, a 12-acre site set among the native redwoods. The vineyard, planted to Pinot Noir, is divided into 3 distinct blocks, which are handled, fermented, and bottled in block-designated bottlings. A general vineyard blend is also produced. Winemaker at Black Kite is twenty-five year wine industry veteran Jeff Gaffner, who also produces his family's own label, Saxon Brown.
