Good bright red. Closed nose offers ineffable soil tones to complement raspberry and menthol. Tight, juicy and imploded but already shows outstanding precision to its primary flavors of crushed berries, minerals and brown spices. Wonderful energy and restrained sweetness here, not to mention huge material to support its serious tannic spine. Finishes with outstanding mineral persistence.

The 2010 Barolo Brunate impresses for its textural richness and aromatic generosity. The Brunate crus shows exceptionally well in 2010, offering the kind of structure that is as powerful and lasting as it is finessed and graceful. It's the proverbial iron fist in a silken glove. A burgeoning bouquet of dried flower and pressed cherry roots the wine in a sense of freshness and youthfulness. Indeed, Brunate is a vineyard cru that is particularly suited to long-living Barolo. It is a crime to drink this wine before its time. Drink: 2018-2035.

  • Decades of experience as vineyard tenders in Barolo provided the Vietti family with priceless information when they decided to go into the winemaking business in the early 1900s. The firm recently acquired an additional 7 hectares of vineyards, bringing their holdings to a total of 31. Their link to the land has been the catalyst for their vineyard-designate bottlings, which showcase Barolo's diverse terroir. The wines' finesse belies their extraordinary depth and complexity; Vietti firmly adheres to the classic style that makes the wines of Piedmont such a revelation to those patient enough to cellar them.
