(14.4% alcohol, 3.46 pH): Saturated ruby to the rim. Extremely primary, slightly porty blackberry aroma. Creamy-sweet in the mouth, with harmonious acidity giving a light touch to the blueberry and pepper flavors. Most impressive today on the extremely long, juicy finish, which features a strong peppery quality along with a suggestion of exotic fruits. This should evolve slowly and well in the bottle.

A cool, inward wine, the 2010 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard is intensely saline and mineral-driven in personality. Sweet floral and spice notes add complexity to the beautifully delineated, energetic fruit. The Hayne brings together tension, power and depth, with serious length and extract. These vines were planted in 1953. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.

Extremely extracted and colored an inky black, with deep wild berry flavors and details of dried porcini, chili powder, espresso and a touch of teriyaki. Thick, burly tannins firm up on the finish. Drink now through 2020. 450 cases made.

Making "big reds" has been Larry Turley's passion since giving up his co-ownership of Frog's Leap Winery in 1993. Turley Wine Cellars is run by Larry and his wife Suzanne. Larry's sister, winemaker Helen Turley, made the wines here until 1995. Now the honor goes to Ehren Jordan, who also makes wines for Neyers. With a focus on producing old-vine Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, Turley sources fruit from vineyards some of which date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. Both the Zinfandels and Petite Sirahs have a dark, saturated, inky color, with intense fruit flavors that make unforgettable statements about the power and complexity these varieties may attain.
