Bright ruby. Red berries and cherry skin on the high-pitched nose. Tangy, oak-spiced cherry and raspberry flavors have a slightly tart edge and pick up a smoky nuance with air. The finish shows gentle sweetness and youthful tannins, along with notes of vanilla and mocha.

Tart red currant and sour cherry dominate Domaine Serene's 2010 Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve, which leads to a slight sense of detachment from the wine's satiny texture and smoky overlay of barrel toast. Richness is certainly not on the menu here ' unless it's after a few years in bottle. But there is a tenderness of touch not to mention a vivacity that will certainly remain attractive features over the next half dozen years. Peppery notes ally themselves to the tart edge of berry skin for an invigorating finish.

*sigh* the last bottle has come and gone but I have zero regrets since this was at an absolute peak in my mind - gorgeous extraction and mouthfeel, with wild strawberry, briary forest floor fruits of bramble, hints of mushroom, baking spices and an effervescent gorgeous nose. I can't say enough good things about this wine, nearly everything I'd want in a Pinot Noir with richness and plenty of structure without coming across as tannic in the least.

Owners Ken and Grace Evenstad arrived in Oregon in 1989 to pursue their passion for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their winemaker Tony Rynders, who holds a Masters in Enology from UC Davis, crafts impeccably balanced wines primarily from three low-yielding estate properties: Jerusalem Hill, Evenstad and Winery Hill. Syrah is produced under their Rock Block label.
