    Inky ruby. Intense red fruit and floral pastille aromas are complicated by notes of peppery spices and minerals. Rich, lively and penetrating, offering sweet raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a deeper licorice nuance. Becomes richer and chewier with air, picking up an exotic note of black cardamom. Powerful tannins give grip to an extremely long, sappy finish with its lingering suggestions of cherry compote and minerals. This wine is still a baby, but extremely promising.

    There are approximately 120 cases of the 2010 Gigondas Le Poste, a nearly perfect effort. Its inky/blue/purple color is followed by aromas of flowers, blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries, graphite and camphor. It offers an aromatic smorgasbord of wonderful scents, and hits the palate with a full-bodied, thunderous mouthfeel revealing lots of texture, a multidimensional build and a 45 +-second finish. This is an amazing tour de force in winemaking from Louis Barruol.

    This manages to take a wide range of fruits'loganberry, raspberry, blackberry, plum and more'and melds them all together with a coulis feel that retains freshness and precision, while extra notes of iron, tobacco, charcoal and espresso expand through the finish. This has serious weight and depth, with massive structure, but also chiseled cut thanks to vivacious acidity. Amazing from start to finish.

  • Located in the very heart of Gigondas, this property has been in the family for 500 years, with ancient stone cellars that haven't changes much since they were hewn out of the rock. The wines are made by Louis Barroul, a fanatical and uncompromising individual who extracts from the land the true essence of the grape and is driven to make nothing but top-notch wines. Louis is a hands-on type of winemaker, and even with the grapes he contracts for, he personally oversees the thinning, pruning, ripening and harvesting. This dedication and surveillance pays off in spades in the end with wines that are focused and concentrated without being flabby. They showcase an array of balanced fruit, spice and earth flavors.
