2010 RdV Vineyards Lost Mountain
UNITED STATES / VIRGINIA /
Wine Advocate | Rating: 93
The 2010 Lost Mountain is from a vintage most Virginians will tell you was epic. Sometimes, in fact, I think many examples have gone overboard and the better balanced 2009s are about as good. It is a question of where and what. Here, I give the slight edge to the 2010. It is a big mouthful, adding a layer or two of depth to the 2009, but still maintaining its elegance. Intense and penetrating on the finish, this certainly stands out most, though, for its big, big fruit and intensity of flavor. A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot coming in at 14.7% alcohol, it is a Big Boy that never loses its balance and it kept getting better every time that I went back to it. It seems like a big winner. Young vines or no, it would be churlish not to give it some respect. The future will hold other answers, just note that it does have some things to prove in the cellar.Author: Mark Squires
