This is a phenomenal Brunello from the personal vineyard of famous consulting enologist Carlo Ferrini. It shows such a richness and depth that I have seldom found in pure sangiovese. Full-bodied, yet balanced and dense, it shows so much cherry, floral and minerally character. Citrus, too. It was aged 24 months in used 500-liter oak barrels. Only 3,000 bottles we made.

Carlo Ferrini's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a beautiful wine that far exceeded my expectations. Actually, I'm not sure what I expected, but it wasn't this level of focus and clarity. The wine definitely reflects the philosophy of its creator (it is aged in 500-liter oak barrel for two years) and presents a modern and international style that will not appeal to Brunello purists. However, no one can deny this level of quality. The bouquet is redolent of dark cherry, black fruit, spice, leather and tobacco. The mouthfeel reflects the enduring power of the vintage thanks to integrated tannins, bright acidity and lingering fruit notes. The freshness of the fruit is intact and should serve the wine well in terms of its aging future.
